The winter fishery is in full swing in Charlotte Harbor.
We have scored on both Redfish and Snook in good
numbers, fishing the canals and Bays along the Harbor.
On one trip we had 15 Redfish, 2 Snook and several nice
trout as an example. Fishing the Gheenoe on another
trip, allowed us to explore the headwaters of Alligator
Creek where we had a bonanza Snook day, catching over 25
to 26 inches on fly and artificial. Just prior to the
New Year, swarms of False Albacore and Kings were caught
near Boca Grande. Catching Albacore on Fly is something
every fly rodder should experience once, you'll never
forget it. The warm winter has saved many snook,
although one cold front killed thousands in January.
Snook cannot stand temperatures below 60 deg F for
extended periods. As the Harbor temps warm, baitfish
will invade the Harbor and Tarpon will soon follow.
Tarpon have been seen in schools north of Naples, so it
wont be long before they will be available in the Boca
Grande and Gulf areas.
Tight Lines,
